Background

Training has always been a part of my life. I started off loving rugby league, skateboarding and running as a kid - any sport really.

As I grew up my interests changed. I was introduced to MMA and Jiujitsu. Martial arts pushed me to pursue health on a much deeper level because I wanted to be the best fighter and have the best physical capabilities as possible.

I am at Jungle because it was the only gym in Sydney that shared my values about how to train properly and the importance of community. Also it has world class coaching and services to offer. My hope is to learn and grow with the other coaches and community as best I can.

"Choccy is amazing, has brought me a long way with healthy eating and healthy life choices. Would recommend to anyone who is thinking of working with him!

"I recently completed Choc's 4-week parasite & fungal cleanse program, Choc was extremely helpful and knowledgable.. Some of the benefits I gained from this experience included: less fatigue (such as afternoon slumps), increased energy and mental clarity, decreased bloating and improved skin health.

Choc has also allowed me to view nutrition from a different perspective and simplify my diet.. Thanks so much Choc, love your work!"

Why do you train?

I train for many reasons but let me try narrowing it down to a few. First ones would be the obvious to maintain optimal health. Keeping my body strong and mobile allows me to do all the things I love with ease. Secondly, the mental/emotional side of things is super important to me. Without a training routine, I feel a bit detached from my body and not as confident or sure of myself.

What does your training look like?

I love the training Jungle has to offer. The bodyweight strength is world class and super enjoyable. I also love traditional barbell training mixed with functional training. Anything that challenges me and helps with my Brazilian Jiujitsu.

What type of training do you offer as a personal trainer?

My training offering to the world involves lots of rehabilitation and corrective exercise training, back pain rehab, post-natal training, self myofascial practice as well as strength conditioning.

What's been your biggest hurdle within your own training journey?

Biggest hurdle was my MCL tear at the end of 2022. I had many realisations from this injury, one big one was that overtraining and stressing your system impacts your body massively. Especially the stability of your whole system. I learned the hard way, if you're reading this. Incorporate stress management tools into your routine now as well as organic nourishing food every day.

What would you say to someone who's just starting out their training journey?

What I said above about stress management. As well as take it day by day, start with your core and flexibility then work with basic strength work too. Integrate with a holistic attitude. Get a coach to avoid creating poor movement patterns. Poor patterns can take a long time to train out.

Why are you here at Jungle Botany and what do you hope to achieve here?

I am at Jungle because it was the only gym in Sydney that shared my values about how to train properly and the importance of community. Also it has world class coaching and services to offer. My hope is to learn and grow with the other coaches and community as best I can.

What are the main lessons you've learned from your coaching journey so far?

Listening is more important than talking. Learning to listen to people's energy when they walk into a session making sure our training is suited to their stress levels on that day. Having a coach helps you live a better life. Asking for help in any field is a game changer for all of us.
